All Things Classic GTO
The Pontiac GTO was built from 1964 to 1974. It is considered the first true muscle car. Most classic car lovers are drawn to the nostalgia that come with muscle cars. These cars were built in a time that cars were strong, solid, loud and had a lot of horsepower. They also have become a fairly good investment. Time has shown that they are increasing in value and demand for the classic’s has remained steady. If you are in the market to buy a GTO, you will need to decide on your budget. Regardless of whether the car has already been restored or is in need of restoration, it is probably not going to be cheap. A good paint job alone can cost anywhere from $10-15 thousand dollars. You willalso need to decide what body style that you like best and the availability of that style. There is a big difference in style between say a 1968 GTO and a 1970 GTO. A good place to get information is from classic GTO owners themselves. An easy way to do that is to attend car shows in your area. You may even find a few for sale. Doing a search on line will help you find GTO’s for sale all over the country. Do your research first. Know what you want and ask lots of questions. See what needs to be restored and then find out how much it will cost to do the restoration. Look for a restorer that specifically works on classic cars, preferably, someone who knows GTO’s really well. Sometimes you will find a GTO that has already been completely restored. That will make things easier for you, but it won’t be cheap. Depending on what year it is and how much work was put in, you may be looking at $45-150 thousand dollars. The retored GTO Judges, seem to be the priceiest of them all, Many are $80,000 and up. Some classic car owners think of their car as a work in progress and as long as the car runs, they are happy to bring the car back to its orginal glory over a longer period of time. That way they can at least drive the car but the intial money output is much lower and the costs can be controlled at their own pace. These are just some of the things to think about in your search. Good luck!
